We’ve reached the end of our first week of free downloads from our favourite bands on The Joyzine Advent Calendar, and there are plenty more treats in store over the remaining 17 days. Today we have a double dose of delightful downloads for your delectation courtesy of the lovely folk at BB*Island Records whose roster includes the likes of She Keeps Bees, Gris-De-Lin and today’s two featured calendar bands.
Our first track of the day comes from Ariel Sharratt & Mathias Kom of Joyzine garage-folk faves The Burning Hell (check out Paul Maps’ slightly frothing review of their show at The Lexington this year). The Canadian duo are set to release their second collaboration as a two-piece on 3rd April – titled Never Work it’s described as “a protest playlist for our collective journey towards oblivion or the beach—or both” and will be accompanied by live dates in the UK and Germany.
Today we have a track from the pair’s first album Don’t Believe The Hyperreal, which is still available to buy from the BB*Island shop.
BB*Island’s second offering comes from their re-issue of 22-Pistepirkko‘s classic Finnish indie-pop LP Rumble City LaLa Land, which received its first ever vinyl release in November. The band formed in 1980 and are still going strong almost 30 years later. This album, their fourth, saw them introduce elements of hip-hop, electro and African blues into the mix. Get your copy here.
All of the tracks on The Joyzine Advent Calendar are completely free to download without any need to sign up, and if that fills you with the spirit of giving, why not make a donation to our chosen charity Crisis to help with the excellent work they do supporting homeless people in Britain.
Check back every day until Christmas Eve for more free festive musical gifts or check the links below to catch up on what you may have missed so far.
