It’s day two on The Joyzine Advent Calendar and as we approach the end of the year it’s a time to look back and reflect on everything that’s happened over the past twelve months, particularly for the nation’s music journalist who will be busy compiling their ‘Best of 2019’ lists as we speak.
One of our highlights of the year was Portals Festival in Tufnell Park (check out our reviews here: Day One, Day Two), which saw a host of bands blur the lines between rock’s multitudinous sub-genres and perhaps the most spectacular realisation of this underlying theme was the leviathan afro-doom of Vodun, who have provided a track from their excellent second album Ascend.
In addition to their Portals appearance Vodun made their first Glastonbury appearance this year, and singer Chantal joined us on The Joyzine Radio Show to talk about their preparations – listen back here.
They will kick off 2020 with a performance at Chaos Thory’s 10th anniversary festival alongside Zu and Teeth of The Sea at The Dome in North London on 29th February – tickets here.
