The Joyzine Radio Show YouTube Playlist

Those of you who pay attention to our online emissions will know that The Joyzine Radio Show has been off the air for a few weeks as presenter Paul Maps has been in recovery from a head injury sustained whilst playing for Team Joyzine at the Soccer Six music and football festival.  He’s on the mend but not quite ready to be back broadcasting this week, so to fill the Joyzine-shaped hole in your weekend, here’s a playlist of some of our recommended bands playing London over the course of the next seven days – scroll down for gig info and band links:

1: DOLLS – Audrey
2: Gaygirl – Dance to Death
Revitalised after a recent spell on the sidelines, DOLLS played a barnstorming comeback show for the Roadkill Records all-dayer in the summer, and were so good they’ve been asked back for this week’s Roadkill / We Can Do It joint promotion at The Shacklewell Arms on Friday night, where they’ll be supported by Projector, Krush Puppies and fellow Joyzine favourites Gaygirl.  It’s a free entry night celebrating the release of DOLLS’ new single ‘Armchair Psychiatrist’ with Gary The Tall (NTS Radio) and John The Revelator spinning vinyl into the early hours.

3: The Sly Persuaders – Wild for the Night
4: Sleaze – Rapunzel
Fellow Roadkill alumni The Sly Persuaders are also out on the town this Friday, bringing their surfy garage rock tunes to our favourite South London haunt The Windmill in Brixton, where they’ll be joined by Sleaze, who impressed us with a recent opening slot at the Happening all-dayer in Elephant & Castle and who double as tonight’s promoters, Melt Dunes side-project Uncle Jimmy’s Wandering Hand Band and Waterbaby.  Tickets are £3 on the door.

5: Cassels – Coup
6: Youth Man – Fat Dead Elvis
We reviewed the splendid new Cassels documentary ‘Is It Punk Music?’ the other day and have been raving about the band for a fair few years now – see what we’ve been harping on about this Friday, when the band will be playing a launch show for their new album Epithet, at Birthdays in Dalston with support from the always excellent Youth Man and Vincent Vocoder Voice.  It’s a Neat Neat Neat Promotions night and tickets are a fiver.

7: Table Scraps – My Obsession
8: Strange Cages – The Cracks
We’ve been fans of Brummie trio Table Scraps ever since being recommended by our To Hell With Good Intentions co-promoters Frauds, they’ll be bringing their heavy psych sound to Camden’s Lock Tavern for a free entry show promoted by Be A Body, where they’ll be joined by Strange Cages, whose mix of Doors-y rock, post punk and wild limbed drumming caught our ear at a recent show in Elephant & Castle, as well as Flesh Velvet and Teenagers.

9: Deux Furieuses – Time To Mourn / From Fear To Fury
10: Art Trip & The Static Sound – No Fly Zone
Fierce, taut and politically-charged, Deux Furieuses are one of the must-see bands on the circuit right now and have been rightly selected by punk rock standard bearers Louder Than War to headline their Blogtober Festival show at The Finsbury.  Support comes from raw post-punk activitists Art Trip & The Static Sound and Manchester three-piece LIINES.  It’s a free entry show, but you’ll need to register for tickets on this link to be assured of entry.

11: Baby In Vain – Martha’s View
Fresh from supporting Deap Vally at the recent Fluffer Pit Party, Danish grunge trio Baby In Vain return to these shores for a headline show at The Camden Assembly with support from Do Nothing.  Advanced tickets priced at £8 + £1.50 booking fee are available here.

That’s all for this week – assuming Paul’s head heals up in time we’ll be back on Wandsworth Radio next Wendesday from 7-8pm.  If you just can’t wait that long, check out our podcast library.
