The Joyzine Advent Calendar – Day 16 of free downloads from our favourite artists

It’s day 16 on the Joyzine Advent Calendar, and with only 8 windows left we’re feeling extra generous today so we’ve put together a package of not one, not two but three fantastic free downloads for your listening pleasure today.

Track #1: First – Utopian Values

First up, if you’ll excuse what barely amounts to a pun, are London trio First, who earlier this year released their second album, Shriek (get your copy here) on which today’s track ‘Utopian Values’ first appeared.

As frontman of alt rock power trio Stony Sleep, First frontman Ben Fox Smith was a massive influence in growing my infatuation with music in my late teens, so I was delighted to welcome him and bassist Tom into the studio for an interview and live session on The Joyzine Radio Show – check out the podcast.

First play their final show of the year tonight as part of Nestivus, a week long event of free shows at The Bird’s Nest in Deptford.  The rumblings coming from the band seem to suggest it could be the last chance to see them in a while, with other projects in the offing for 2017 so make sure that you get along.

Track #2: Here Are The Young Men & Uncle Peanut – Have You Been Good This Year?

Amongst the highlights of our To Hell With Good Intentions shows at Hoodoo’s in Croydon this year was the appearance of Reading based laptop punk duo Here Are The Young Men & Uncle Peanut.

They released heir debut album Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! Peanut Punk!, which introduced us to the inhabitants of the strange world of Peanut Town last year and a second LP is on the way.  In 2016 they released new tracks ‘Goggles’, ‘The Day The Hipsters Stole Our Look’ and their Christmas single ‘Have You Been Good This Year?’, which we have for you today.

Track #3: Hey You Guys – Where Are All My Friends? (Nine Fucking Years)

2016 has been a relatively quiet year for Worcester’s finest, Hey You Guys, with much of the past 12 months spent writing and recording for a new LP, titled Difficult Second Album, due in 2017.  The band did sneak out an EP and also hit the road with Kerbdog, their second outing with the Irish grunge stalwarts.

Details on the new album are still sketchy, but the band did release a preview track, ‘Supermarkets‘ on Youtube in October and we have a second glimpse of what’s to come for you today with a free download of ‘Where Are All My Friends? (Nine Fucking Years)’
