It’s day ten on the Joyzine Advent Calendar and in the seasonal spirit of giving we have not one, not two , but three free tracks with which to pleasure your ears today. All three come from bands who’ve recently graced the airwaves of The Joyzine Radio Show in recent weeks, and if you like this sort of thing you may wish to tune in on Wednesday, when we’ll be broadcasting our Advent Calendar special featuring as many tracks from this year’s selection as we can cram into an hour. You can listen live from 7pm at www.croydonradio.com
Track #1: Desperate Journalist – Just Like Christmas
Desperate Journalist brought their shimmering brand of brooding post-punk to the studio last month (check out the podcast here) ahead of the release of latest single ‘Hollow’.
They’ve got a busy year ahead, with their second LP Grow Up due to come out in March through indie veteran Fierce Panda Records, and their biggest headline show to date at The Scala in London on 6th April. They’ll kick off the year with a DJ set alongside live performances from Purs, Tear and Fightmilk at The Victoria in Dalston on 5th January.
For today’s Advent Calendar window, they’ve provided us with a festive treat in the form of their 2013 of Low’s cult Christmas classic ‘Just Like Christmas’.
Tracks #2+3: Menaces – D.I.S.C.O.M.G. (Original + Dub Remix)
New London band Menaces feature members of at least half a dozen of our favourite bands, including The Boyfriends, Penny Orchids, The New Royal Family, Brontosaurus Chorus and Luxembourg, and when the latter appeared on the show in October, prior to a reunion gig at The Islington, we gave Menaces their first ever radio airing – check out the podcast.
The band are due to release their debut mini-album in the new year and we have a sneak preview for you today with both the original version and dub remix of debut track ‘D.I.S.C.O.M.G.’
