With Croydon Radio temporarily off the air while the station relocates to a new studio, we’ll be giving you your weekly new music fix through our Joyzine Radio Playlist – 10 tracks meticulously honed from the week’s gigs and new releases. Here’s this week’s selection:
1. Vienna Ditto – Oh Josephine
Our favourite voodoo sci-fi blues duo play Nestival at The Bird’s Nest, Deptford on Thursday night. It’s free entry and bands start at 5pm so get there early.
2. Pere Ubu – Road To Utah
The post-punk godfathers are in town for one night only. Catch them live at Corsica Studios on 25th August.
3. Clever Thing – In A Tissy
Joyzine are teaming up with local punks Frauds for another night of glorious noise with the fourth instalment of our To Hell With Good Intentions night at Hoodoo’s in Croydon on Friday. Headlining the show are artful Brighton mischief makers Clever Thing.
4. Bugeye – Never Let You Go
And they’ll be joined on the line-up by South London garage disco three-piece Bugeye, along with Rat The Magnificent and Here Be Monsters. Tickets are £5 on the door and it all kicks off at 8pm – see you down the front.
5. Oh! Gunquit – Sinkhole
Having wowed the crowds at this year’s Joyfest earlier in the year, Oh! Gunquit bring their hula-hoopin’, trumpet tootin’ rockabilly rumble to The Clerkenwell Festival at Spa Fields Park on Sunday, which also features a headline set from The Parkinsons.
6. Elephants & Castles – Fashanu
The South London duo play an unplugged set at Clapton’s Lion Coffee & Records on Sunday at 5pm.
7. Hunck – All Dressed Up
Papier-mâché madness abounds in the video for witty North London five-piece Hunck’s new single.
8. K.Flay – Blood In The Cut
The phrase ‘fuses hip-hop/rap with punk rock influences’ is usually one that brings the Joyzine review staff out in a cold sweat, but thankfully on her new single K.Flay has got the balance just right, resulting in a track imbued with drop dead noir-ish cool. Catch her live at Reading & Leeds festivals this weekend and at Hoxton Bar & Kitchen on 6th September.
9. Rattle – Stringer Bell
Intriguing minimalist track from Nottingham based drumming duo Rattle, taken from their self-titled album which was released earlier this month.
10. Actual Crimes – I Don’t Want To See
Power pop punks Actual Crimes released their final album Ceramic Cat Traces earlier this week. You can get a free download or buy a limited edition cassette of the album on the link below.
